Merchants Registration Number Info:
The Government/Tax Dept. in Puerto Rico has implemented a "required" change when processing shipments delivering on the island. Effective immediately, every consignee accepting freight in Puerto Rico must be registered with the Tax Dept. in Puerto Rico and obtain a "Merchants Registration number" which MUST be listed on the Bill of Lading at the time of pick up. If the Registration number is not available on the Bill of Lading the freight cannot be delivered until obtained, could delay loading and or delivery of the freight. Not having the number readily available could require a separate submission to the Tax Dept., which will result in a $10.00 fee. The Registration number (11 digits) is required to be on the Bill of Lading/invoice for the freight forwarder effective 08-01-2011 for all shipments destined to Puerto Rico.
